Maxim’s Story
How an Expedition to the Kuril Islands Helped To Get into UCLA
Maxim D. is a talented student from one of the best physics and mathematics lyceums in Russia and a participant in the All-Russian Olympiad in Computer Science.
Goal: To gain admission to the best universities in the USA at the Faculty of Computer Science.
Case Features:
To achieve this, Maxim needed to prepare diligently for the AP or A-Level exams, as well as the SAT, aiming for high scores and crafting an appealing portfolio. Even though he had impressive academic achievements, by the time he approached us, Maxim had focused solely on his studies, which presented a challenge. Gaining entry to prestigious institutions requires applicants to demonstrate themselves as well-rounded individuals, embodying the spirit of a 'Renaissance man'.
Solution:
We developed a strategy that emphasised thorough preparation for his A-Level subjects with top instructors from both Russia and the UK, along with building a strong academic portfolio. Throughout this process, we implemented four key projects. The first was the creation of an AI engine for searching scientific articles, which was developed in collaboration with an artificial intelligence expert from Yandex. The second project involved co-authoring a research paper with an Irish professor, constructed with the aid of this same engine. The third was a Japanese-Russian expedition to the Kuril Islands, during which Maxim and a team of scientists gathered and processed cartographic data, as well as filmed a documentary using LiDAR technology and drones. Finally, Maxim penned a scientific article detailing the expedition's findings, which was subsequently published in an international Irish journal.
Result:
Maxim received offers from some of the best universities in California, including UCLA and UCSD, as well as New York University. After an organised campus tour that we arranged, he ultimately chose to attend the University of California, Los Angeles.
King's College London Sprint
When our younger son, Egor, received an invitation to join the engineering programme at King's College London, circumstances were far from ideal. Just six months before his expected start, he made the difficult decision to leave school and found himself without any formal teaching. The offer from the college was based on predicted grades for upcoming exams, but achieving top results without the support of school teachers proved to be a real challenge.
Reaching out to Delta Education turned out to be the best decision we could have made. Our elder son had previously been tutored by them, so we were already familiar with their straightforward approach – no fuss, just results. Egor engaged in intensive study sessions with an Oxford chemistry tutor and a mathematics tutor from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, dedicating 6-9 hours a week to his studies. By June, he had taken his exams and achieved the highest marks.
We are confident that without the experts from Delta Education, we would have had to defer Yegor's admission by a year, with no guarantees of success. Their team is adaptable, like sprinters and marathon runners, depending on your needs.
Anton’s Story
From trouble with English to study in the UK
Anton S., a brilliant mind in the sciences field, relocated with his family from Russia to Dubai.
Goal #1: To support Anton in adjusting to his new English-speaking school.
Case Features:
Anton's family approached us after six months of him attending a new school. We reviewed his report card and discovered that he was achieving top marks only in subjects where he could rely primarily on mathematical formulas. However, subjects that required a strong command of English posed more of a challenge for him.
Solution:
We connected Anton with bilingual tutors across all subjects covered in the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme. This approach allowed him to smoothly integrate into the academic environment while receiving explanations in both languages. The results were impressive: by the end of the year, his average grade improved by a full point. With an overall average of 6 out of 7, we could now focus on preparing him for university applications. Soon, it became clear that Anton wished to continue his studies in the UK.
Goal #2: To gain entry to University College London (UCL).
Case Features:
Anton was considering four universities: UCL, King's College London, the University of Bath, and Oxford. Each of these institutions required qualifications from the British A-Level system, whereas Anton had been studying under the IB programme.
Solution:
Given the differences in the structure and approach of the IB and A-Level curricula, we made a bold decision. Two years before the application deadline, we enrolled Anton in an online school where he could study the A-Level programme. During this period, we provided intensive preparation for his exams in mathematics, further mathematics, and computing, as well as for the IELTS English language test.
Result:
We went all in, confident not only in our tutors but also in Anton himself. He excelled in his A-Level exams and submitted applications to several institutions. Anton's dream became a reality when he was accepted into University College London, one of the top ten universities in the world for computer science.
Anna’s Story
A destined path to Oxford
Anna P. graduated from one of the top schools in Moscow, who has found her calling in physics.
Goal: To secure a place in a master's programme in physics at Oxford University.
Case Features:
Despite being the ideal candidate — with an impeccable school record, a passionate desire to dedicate her life to the fundamental sciences, and a readiness to study abroad — Anna faced a significant hurdle: she lacked a British education. The Russian certificate is not recognised at Oxford, and she was not adequately prepared to sit for the British A-Level exams. Nonetheless, she was eager to gain experience in international academic research. We faced a complex challenge: to find engaging internships abroad while simultaneously preparing Anna for her exams.
Solution:
We created a personalised preparation programme for Anna. Thanks to the flexibility of A-Level — where one can take subjects independently at examination centres around the world — she systematically prepared for her maths and physics exams, taking them in Turkey, Hong Kong, and Cyprus. Simultaneously, we arranged for her to undertake internships at universities for six months, which allowed her to immerse herself in the academic community and obtain valuable letters of recommendation.
After her successful completion of A-Levels, we shifted our focus to the internal assessments at Oxford. We prepared for the Mathematics Admissions Test (MAT) — arguably one of the most challenging maths exams in the world — and organised mock interviews with professors designed to simulate the real university examination experience. For this, we enlisted current Oxford students to assist Anna in her preparations.
Result:
As early as the preparation stage, we noticed Anna’s work ethic, exceptional perseverance, and intrinsic motivation — qualities that are highly valued at Oxbridge. Importantly, the admissions committee shared our viewpoint. Ultimately, Anna found herself in her element at Oxford, pursuing a master’s degree in physics.
The Butterfly Effect
Sonya has always had a deep love for nature, and we've actively encouraged this interest in her. When she turned 14, the manager at Delta Education helped us find the best tutors in the sciences to prepare her for applications to prestigious universities like Cornell or Harvard at a relaxed pace.
Two years into her studies, our daughter announced that she wanted to write a serious research article about butterflies for an international scientific journal. This involved working with university databases, conducting experiments in the lab, and gaining access to a breeding facility. I did not doubt that Delta Education would assist us in this endeavour. For instance, they could help find a graduate student to co-author the paper. However, I was completely convinced of our choice when the manager called to inform me, "We've found a co-author for Sonya – a professor from Cornell University is looking for an assistant to join their team."
This marked the beginning of one of the most thrilling years for our family. For twelve months, Sonya became a part of the Cornell University team. She worked with scientific databases, and had Zoom calls with graduate students from New York, London, and Paris – and I began to see her not just as my beloved daughter, but as a young scientist with her own ambitions.
A year later, her article was published in the Cornell Scientific Journal. Now I can confidently say that I know at least three notable entomologists: Vladimir Nabokov, Nikolai Romanov, and our Sonya.
Summer of Opportunity: Harvard and Silicon Valley
Parental review
I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the Delta Education team: to the personal manager, the mentors, and the tutors! I trust them with all the details I don't fully understand myself, as I can see their genuine passion for what they do. Investing in Marat's education is fundamentally an investment in the future of our family business, and I am confident that the staff at Delta Education share my values.
Student review
I've already launched a couple of startups with my school mentors. One is a project in the security sector, while the other is a media industry startup. I find myself surrounded by proactive and fearless individuals who are committed to continuous growth and who don't limit themselves when it comes to curiosity and ambition. I was pleased that my mentors were similarly vibrant practitioners, conversing in a way that's far removed from the scripted phrases of free courses.
My goal is Harvard, so my manager at Delta suggested two summer programmes: one with Harvard Ventures and another internship in Silicon Valley. The Harvard programme includes both group and individual masterclasses from leading investors and professors, which I’m eager to attend to enhance my foundational knowledge. Additionally, it features a six-week internship at a venture-capital-backed startup, where I’ll really develop my practical skills
The Silicon Valley internship will take place at one of the top firms with $30 billion in assets! I’m certain that after such an intensive experience, I’ll be able to elevate my projects to a new level.
If you have any doubts about the reality of global warming, spend a hot summer with Delta Education – your perspective will surely change.
From script to startup
Before Delta Education, I was convinced that the concept of formal education had long since reached its limits.
My son expressed a desire to study in the USA, and to secure his place, he needed a standout project for his portfolio. He has always had a passion for filmmaking, so I started looking among my contacts for someone with connections in the film industry. After an extensive search, I was advised to reach out to Delta Education, who were known as the go-to people for such matters, often connected in ways that others weren't.
I contacted a representative from the company, and after providing a brief overview of our request, they immediately presented us with the perfect opportunity. A renowned director was seeking a team to help develop his project: an AI assistant for young screenwriters. He had a solid idea and open-source software, and we had my enterprising son, who was ready to take on the role of leading the startup. They hired a professor from St. Petersburg State University, an expert in startup financing, and they got to work.
My son took on the role of CEO for the project, assembling a team, identifying potential investors among family and friends, and developing a business plan and budget. Now, he is preparing for a presentation to investors, after which he plans to launch sales and scale the project.
I am truly impressed by the amount of work my son has accomplished, and at times, it’s hard to believe that a teenager is capable of such feats. I have come to realise that Delta Education is rightly considered one of the best in the educational sector. Their premium support has provided my son with the necessary impetus and has unlocked his potential in the most unexpected ways.
